First Sunday of the month - A beginner's class, an Introduction to Buddhism, is available to those who are just entering the path or simply curious. If you would like to attend, please RSVP our secretary, Jackie Randa, no later than the preceding Thursday.
Holidays/Celebrations
Buddha's Birthday
April - We chant and bathe a statue of the baby Buddha with sweet tea and flower petals. We encourage everyone to bring an instrument, a poem, a song, a joke (suitable for the occasion), and to entertain the sangha during our shared meal. Roshi often plays his guitar.
Vulan - (Sanskrit: Ulambana)
This ceremony dates back to the time of the Buddha and was started to help one of his monks who had visions of his mother being tortured in hell. The ceremony was to help deliver her from hell. It has become a annual day to remember those who have passed away and it is also a time to recognize or remember your mother. You may submit any names of those who have passed away to the priests at the temple so they may be remembered during ceremony.
Buddha's Enlightenment Day
December - This is a very special day and is often used for ordination services because of it auspiciousness.
Reaffirming the Precepts
Twice Yearly on the Equinox - This is a time for those who have taken the five lay precepts to reaffirm them. I is also an excellent time for those who wish to take precepts to do so (please RSVP to Jackie Randa at least two weeks before).
